About Us
Purpose (Goals and Objectives) of the Interventional Radiology Interest Group (iRIG): 1 Promote Awareness of Interventional Radiology (IR): Educate medical students about the field of IR, including its role in modern medicine, the breadth of procedures performed, and its evolving role in minimally invasive care. 2 Provide Mentorship Opportunities: Connect students with interventional radiologists, residents, and fellows to foster guidance, career insight, and professional development. 3 Facilitate Clinical Exposure and Shadowing: Offer structured shadowing experiences with IR attendings and residents to help students understand the daily workflow and procedures of IR. 4 Encourage and Support Research Involvement: Promote student participation in IR-related research projects by linking interested students with faculty mentors and providing resources to support their scholarly work. 5 Guide Students Through the Residency Match Process: Provide resources, workshops, and support to help students build competitive applications and navigate the process of matching into integrated or independent IR residency programs. 6 Host Educational and Networking Events: Organize talks, panels, workshops, and procedural demonstrations to give students hands-on exposure and networking opportunities within the IR community. 7 Collaborate with Other Specialty Interest Groups: Work with other interest groups (e.g., Diagnostic Radiology, Surgery, Oncology) to highlight the interdisciplinary nature of IR and encourage holistic learning. 8 Promote Diversity and Inclusion in IR: Actively support the participation of underrepresented groups in the field of Interventional Radiology through inclusive programming and outreach.
